God will Check on His Investment

I
n the 60's a young Pastor by the name of Sam used to preach in two churches because there were very few preachers then. In the morning he would preach in church A and later in Church B. John’s father was a Christian businessman. John was only 10 years old and had accepted to go every morning to the family chicken poultry to gather eggs and go to town to sell the eggs and bring the money to his father.

One of the weekends while Pastor Sam preaching in the church, John was seating in front kicking his legs and chewing his gum, and making cranky wiggly noise all through the service till the message was over.

This young preacher Pastor Sam was faced with so many financial needs, as he has to travel every Sunday to the Seminary and return every Friday to preach in his two churches.

One day when he had returned to school already, he went to the post office to collect his mail and he saw a full box. In the process of trying to remove them, a full envelope fell to the floor and burst off with coins everywhere. His friends helped him until every coin was recovered. This young pastor opened the letter and found that it was John who had sent in $5.98 all in coins. The letter reads:

 Dear Sam,

I am sending you this money to help you study hard and to be a better preacher. As long as you are in school, I will be sending in my egg money to help you.

 Thanks and Good bye.

Yours John

The Pastor was so shocked that this same small boy who was just chewing and banging his legs, the other Sunday could sent that money. Pastor Sam, was touched by John’s offer. He did not know what to do, he knew John was a young man and he needed the money. So during the weekend, when he came home to preach in his two churches he went to see John’s father. He told him what John had sent to him the past week and he wanted to return the money to John because he needs the money too.

John’s father said, “One way to break John’s heart is to return that money, he has made up his mind after he heard you preach that Sunday that he would send in all I pay him for his labour in the poultry to you. You either accept or give him back and break his heart.”

So Pastor Sam decided to keep the money. Ever then, John kept sending in his weekly income from the poultry farm of Pastor Sam. After some time Pastor Sam was transferred to another location and he lost physical contact with John, but John kept sending in the money. Once in a while, John would walk up into the church service to “Check on his investment.”  John would say to Pastor Sam, “I came to check on what I sowed years ago.”

That kept Pastor Sam on his toes. There was no room for him to be mediocre because he has to be accountable to John who has given his all for him. He strived to be the best in all he was doing. Every Sunday, though far away from John, he prepared to preach his best, he has no room to be mediocre. Nobody knows when John would come around to check on his investment, he can walk into his service at any time to see what is going on.

As a student Pastor Sam would stay late at night reading his books because John gave his all, though it was so small, it was everything John could afford. Three years ago John died, he had grown to be a lawyer and at 30 a car run into him and he died.

Jesus gave His all for you to be the best you can be for him. There is no room to be mediocre, be your best because he gave His all for your best.

“He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: And if it bears fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.”  (Luke 13:6-9)

How productive is your Christian life? Maybe you only have one more year to bear fruit and if not you will be cut down. God will be coming around to check on His investment in your life, so work out your salvation with fear and trembling so that you can be your best for Jesus.
