But from those who seemed to be something . . . added nothing to me

Pastor Michael Gowon

“But from those who seemed to be something – whatever they were, it makes no difference to me, God shows personal favoritism to no man- for those who seemed to be something added nothing to me” (Gal. 2:6)

Many a time, this is the irony of life. You may expect so much from those who “seemed to be something” and get outright disappointment. They may appear so big, behave so smart, look influential, pose so complete, present themselves to be of high reputation and even become recognized by many as important, yet they have no heart, no resolve to be a blessing to anybody. They live for themselves and struggle through life only to get all they can and can what they get.

Paul, the Apostle faced such people in life and ministry. From the first impression, they appear like the fig tree leaves Jesus saw, but when you get close to them, they are fake, plastic, empty, and artificial. If any man is promoted to be anything, it is because God has allowed it and that he is meant to be a blessing to others. That basic recognition is critical. God is  always our course, he is the ultimate provider and owner of  all we own.

As long as you see yourself as a steward, you will work to be accountable and responsible to men and to God. But as soon as you assume the position of ownership, you occupy the driver's seat and you will start working based on your own terms, serving your own purpose and not God’s. It is a big lesson for us to learn that we do not “own” anything because we don’t take anything with us at our exit in life (Ecc. 5:15; 1 Tim. 6:7; Job. 1:21). Remember, stewards think differently from others.

If you want to be something, add something to somebody. Add value, be a solution, be a problem-solver. Approach life from this perspective and you will matter to as many as you will come in contact with in life. What is being said of you by others?

Paul said, “For those who seemed to be something, whatever they were, it makes no difference to me.”  He said “Those who seemed to be something whatever they were it makes no difference to me” What of shame!! It is a sad statement to be mentioned of any person. So make up your mind, this day, this week and this month to make the difference in those you come in contact with. You are made to make a difference, so embrace every opportunity to do so. Bless you.
