How to Access God

HOW TO ACCESS GOD

Pastor Michael Joseph Gowon

W

e access God based on our knowledge of who He is. Our knowledge of God gives us access to his sufficiency or denies us the access to his abundance. Do you know God based on what He said he is in the word or is it based on your assumed criteria. Remember that your understanding of God can limit your access to Him. That is why it is important for you to seek to know him genuinely and understand his operations before you make conclusions of what he can be or do for you.

“He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel - Psa. 103:7

God can make his ways known to you as well. He will unveil his plans to you. Trust me He is so wiling and ready to do so.

The servant in Matthew 25 saw his master in a certain way and he was very confident about what he thought of him. According to him, his master was a strict, harsh and ruthless man who expects a harvest from the field he didn't plant.

‘Then the servant with the one bag of golf came and said, “sir, I know you are a hard man, harvesting crops you didn’t plant and gathering crops you didn’t cultivate” – Matt. 25:24 NLT

“Then the one who have been entrusted with one thousand gold coins came to his master and said, “Look, Sir, I know you are a shrewd and ruthless businessman who grows rich on the back of others”- Matt. 25:24 TPT

His knowledge of his master made him afraid of him. Rather than invest what was given to him, he had hidden it and his master addressed him as “unfaithful, good-for-nothing servant.” Are you a “wicked and slothful, unprofitable servant?”

Your concept of who God is  to you has a lot to say about how you  take him and what you expect him to do in your life. I was praying about a certain matter in my life sometimes back, and had to discuss with one of the brothers in our fellowship. I told him lately I am asking God to give me  million naira to help to execute a  project. He said to me, ”but do you think you are the only needy person? Why are you making things difficult for God, at least reduce by half or even less, so others can have something now . . .”

When you see God as a man, you will treat him so. God is bigger than anything you ever imagine him to be. He is bigger than your thoughts and bigger than your problems.

Do not hold unto you little God syndrome, see God for who he is, in all his majesty, greatness and bigness.

Our God is an all-knowing God. He is omniscient, meaning he is the God who knows all things. He knows your situation; He knows what you are passing through and had a prepared solution for you. God knows everything about you, what is, what is to be and that should give you a lot of security.

God is omnipresence, meaning he is everywhere. There is not a place, a spot, where his presence is absence. No wonder the Psalmist said,

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; they rod and thy staff they comfort me” – Psa. 23:4

Our God is also omnipotent that means he is all powerful. God is the sovereign one who sits on the throne to presides over the affairs of this world. He exercises absolute control over everything, everywhere, every time. Why then do you limit God’s power to take care of you, to meet your needs and end up striving and struggling to make ends meet. If you can let go and let God your life with change drastically for good. The Bible says:

"From whence come wars and fightings among you? Come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your member? Ye lust, and have not": ye kill, and  desire to have, and  cannot obtain: ye fight and war,  yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts" -Jas. 4:1-2

Most times we do not trust God with our family or life or even out substance. If we do, we must do it his own way.

In the 1970s during the Holy Ghost revival that happen in Plateau state and other neighbouring states, a certain clergy did outstanding miracles of all sorts including miracles of healing. One day a certain member of the church was bitten by a very poisonous snake and the person was brough to the mission house for him to pray for him.  The distance to the mission house was much, however, when they brought him, he assured them that God will do a miracle and they should trust him. He laid is hands on the spot the snake bit the man and after a brief prayer, everything disappeared and there was no trace of any bite on the leg and that miracle brought a lot of rejoicing and   a reason to exalt the name of the Lord. The testimony went far and wide and God was glorified.

After sometime, another person was bitten by a snake and the relations of the persons brought him to the mission house for prayers. Unfortunately, the evangelist had travelled but was coming back that evening. He sends a message to them that he will be arriving in the evening, but they absolutely believe that God can heal the man, then they should not give him anything. Just leave everything to God and he will certainly heal him.  But as the day went on, they began to worry and consider other options in addition to the prayer being expected. They went to another native doctor for some help, got some  concoction and brought it to the man bitten by the snake to drink.

When the Evangelist returned in the evening, he was disappointed that they could not wait just a few hours trusting God to do the impossible.  He asked them:

“Did you actually wait on the Lordf, as I directed you?””

“They said, yes sir, we did””

Then he answered, “Because you have chosen to tell lies and disbelief the power of God, this brother will not leave, he will surely die . . .”

They took the man away back home and as soon as they arrived their home, the man died. When you know God sits on the throne and that he is in charge of all your life then you must quit fretting over issues of life. Let us always see God in all his power, glory and bigness. When Isaiah saw the Lord in chapter six, in his glory and majesty he felt down flat on his face in worship.

“In the year that King Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. . .  Then said I woe is me! For I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.” – Isa. 6:1, 5

John the beloved in the Island of Patmos saw Jesus in his shining glory and he felt down as dead and Jesus touched him and comfort him and further revealed the future to him. When you see God in all His power and glory and bigness or when you see him as all knowing, all present, all loving and all powerful it will change the way you worship. It will affect your passion, your prayers and excitement in life.

For you to fully access God, you must know his abilities and capacity, if you think less of him, you will get less of what he can do for you. May you access God in his fullness and walk in dominion every day of your life in Jesus’ name.
